Celebrate the New Year with HFD’s fireworks alternatives

HONOLULU (KHON2) — With the New Year hours away, the Honolulu Fire Department is urging residents to celebrate the holiday safely with alternatives to setting off your own fireworks.

Fireworks start over 31,000 fires annually, HFD said. Additionally more than a third of fireworks injuries happen to keiki under the age of 15.

Alternatives provided by the department include attending a professional fireworks show, glow sticks, using noise makers and planning indoor activities to keep keiki off the streets.
