The Chaminade Men’s Golf team competed in the PGA Works Collegiate Championship on May 6-8 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida at TPC Sawgrass (Valley & Stadium Courses).
The Silverswords competed in the Division II field against 7 other programs.
“As I was getting into the last six or seven holes, I knew that I was playing well, so I knew I was in contention and I knew that our team, we were five shots back at the start of the day. I hadn’t looked at the leaderboard all day and it would be close and all of a sudden were in contention and we had a shot at it,” said Sophomore Ethan Alexander. “Things just went our way the last couple of holes”.
Chaminade trailed going into the third and final round of the tournament, but was able to take a lead late in the round to win the Championship by one stroke.
“Over the three days and leading into the last day, we had moved anywhere from first to fourth. But then you don’t know that lead will dissipate in the final few holes. So going into a last hole, we had a two stroke lead and we ended up winning by one stroke, which is great,” said Chaminade Head Coach, Renee Yuen.
While the team finished first, Chaminade’s Ethan Alexander was competing for the win on the individual side as well.
Alexander ended up in second place in the PGA Works Collegiate Championship after ending with a score of +6 for the three day tournament.
The Sophomore was only two strokes from the leader of the event, Austin Shoemaker from Lincoln (MO).
