CRI asking community to not use water after new detections of pollution are found

HONOLULU (KHON2) — New water samples of the Navy’s Water System revealed a new contamination. Members of the Community Representation Initiative for Red Hill is calling on the Navy to clean and ensure truly safe water for area residences and businesses.

A press conference was hosted by the EPA’s CRI for Red Hill on Wednesday, May 15 to discuss the issue.

The AFFF leak happened on Nov. 29, 2022 at Adit 6 of Red Hill.

The Navy initially said 1,100 gallons of the toxic fire suppressant was released, but then upped it to 1,300 gallons a few days later.

This is a horrible toxic soup that people are trying to survive in. And the water is is a significant source of problem.

The CRI said the PFAs they detected in 2 Hickman households on Navy water lines is not believed to be connected to the AFFF leaks (one in 2022 and another in 2020).
