HONOLULU (KHON2) – “Connect Kākou” is a statewide broadband initiative to expand Internet access, which started in 2023.
Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke has since proclaimed September 2025 as “Digital Aloha Month.”
Digital Aloha Month encourages safe and responsible Internet use, while encouraging all Internet users to practice empathy and aloha online, Luke said.
The month aims to advance Connect Kākou’s digital know-how pillar, which emphasizes digital literacy, online safety and mindful technology use.
Experts are seeing more cyberbullying and digital stress among users, particularly with young people on social media, Luke said.
Across all platforms, Luke said that there is a lack of aloha in online interactions such as comments and interpersonal exchanges, which doesn’t reflect the overall values of the islands.
