Dirt bike rider, 14, dead from Ewa collision

EWA BEACH, Hawaii (KHON2) — A fatal crash involving a dirt biker occurred in the Ewa Beach area on Aug. 20 around 7:40 a.m.

Honolulu police reported that a 75-year-old driver with a passenger was driving eastbound on Kolowaka Drive when he hit a 14-year-old biker.

“We are heartbroken to share that one of our students passed away this morning following an accident near the Fort Weaver Road and Kolowaka Drive intersection,” said Jon Henry Lee, principal of Campbell High.

The biker was crossing the road in a marked crosswalk against the red signal, HPD said.

Paramedics with Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and provided “advanced life support” before bringing him to an emergency room in critical condition.

Officials said he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The biker was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, said HPD.

This marks Oahu’s 54th traffic fatality of 2025 compared to 26 at the same time last year.

In a letter posted to Campbell’s website, Lee shared available resources for the school community.

“Our crisis intervention team is made up of trained professionals who are available to support students, parents and school personnel experiencing grief and sadness,” Lee said. “We strongly encourage parents to use these resources.”
