NANAKULI, Hawaii (KHON2) — Friends and family continue to mourn the loss of a young man who was killed in a double stabbing over the weekend. Meanwhile, the man accused of his murder has been charged.
Honolulu police reported that 60-year-old Reynaldo Cheney was charged with murder and first-degree murder. He remains in custody on a $1 million bail.
Officials said Cheney got into an argument with two Wendy’s employees before stabbing them. A memorial grew outside the restaurant for 22-year-old Kashka Otto, who was just at another day of work until an argument with a customer over furniture turned deadly.
According to the medical examiner, Otto died of a stab wound to the abdomen.
“He just shed light everywhere. It’s really heartbreaking for us to lose such a big part of us. He was everything to all of us,” explained Kelsey Otto, Kashka’s sister.
Karlos Otto, Kashka’s brother, said he loved to play sports and dance.
“Anytime you see this guy, he smiles. Having a bad day, just look at this guy and he just instantly smiles. It’s just his aura he had around him was just too pure for this world I guess. And then God just called him,” Karlos said.
“They’re saying that he punched him. Kashka would never. Not our Kashka. The Kashka we know, we raised, we love, not him. He never did anything to hurt anybody. It’s so heartbreaking that Kashka had to go like that. No matter what, the truth will prevail,” Kelsey added.
Loved ones said it didn’t matter how long or short of a time you knew him. Otto left his mark of kindness.
“It’s very hard to talk about him because every time I would see him, he’d have a smile on his face. Kashka didn’t deserve it. He was just too nice of a guy for that. Such a soft and nurturing, loving person,” said Keaka Barrozo, Kashka’s friend.
“Now we got to pick up pieces that we still are trying to pick up. It can take some time, but we gonna get through.”
