Family travel: From farm to fort in Lovely Langley

Arriving at Kensington Prairie Farm’s pastoral property, we’re immediately besotted with the toothy, doe-eyed herd that greets us. The Langley family-run farm raises Huacaya alpacas — a breed coveted for their crimpy, soft-as-cashmere fleece, which, when dyed and spun, creates a beautiful yarn for clothing and plush toys. My 12-year-old daughter Brooklyn could have spent hours perusing the lovely sweaters, scarves, hats, socks and miniature alpaca stuffies artfully displayed in the farm boutique; however, our visit had a greater purpose. We were here to walk the quirky residents, and we were terrified about our assignment.
