HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Traveling Tater Team has less than one week left on the island and part of their itinerary called for trips to the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet and the Hawaii State Capitol.
On Sunday, the team made its first pit stop at Aloha Stadium Swap Meet & Marketplace to attend a food drive initiative that featured a special Buy One Get One admission deal and offered one of the last few opportunities to see the Big Idaho Potato display.
The initiative will ran from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those who brought canned goods or other non-perishable food items for the drive were eligible for the BOGO admission ticket offer.
Of course, attendees stopped by to visit the potato display, met the Big Idaho Potato Tater Team, and took photos.
According to a news release, the Tater Team has already donated $500 during their first visit to the stadium. During this visit, the team aimed to get 500 more signatures to raise a total of $1,000 for the Hawaii Foodbank.
Reports deemed the event a success after the team collected 350 canned goods donations for the food bank and raised over $1300.
The team will now look forward to a lei ceremony at the Hawaii State Capitol.
On Thursday, state officials will lei the Famous Idaho Potato Truck to honor its first visit to the Aloha state and for their contributions with its “A Big Helping” program that helps small charities in towns and cities.
Families are invited to bring their keiki to join Representative Diamond Garcia in the festivities starting at 12:30 p.m.
