HONOLULU (KHON2) — Finding money for Maui, finding money for affordable housing, finding money for the people of Hawaii.
Ways and Means Committee Chair Sen. Donovan M. Dela Cruz (D) was on the hunt for a way to achieve a tax relief for Hawaii and was able to do just that in what is being called by some, the most monumental tax cut in Hawaii in recent history.
“We were able to double the standard deduction and one thing that is really important is that the minimum wage increases, or as wages increase, we want to make sure that we can also increase the brackets because you shouldn’t be penalized for getting a pay raise.”
Sen. Donovan M. Dela Cruz (D)
Also taking into note the recent struggles of Maui, Dela Cruz said due to all the factors the Maui situation brings, it’s still a work in progress where money will be passed along, but the important thing is that it is there and ready for use.
