Firefighters brought the fire under control by 8:12 p.m. by initiating an aggressive fire attack and extinguished the flames by 8:47 p.m.

HFD officials confirmed no one was inside the building at the time of the incident and ensured that the fire did not extend to other buildings.

No injuries were reported due to the fire, and all HFD officials were accounted for.

Sunday’s fire was Makalapa Elementary School’s second fire of 2024, the first happening on Jan. 15.

In the Jan. 15 fire, a portable classroom caught flames from an electrical outlet within the classroom.

Reports said the fire’s origin resulted from an electrical arc that ignited a bookshelf and structural wood members of the building.
