Former corrections officer sentenced to life for mother’s murder, expresses remorse

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The former adult corrections officer found guilty of killing his mother learned his fate Wednesday.

Anthony Pereira II was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

On June 10, 2016, Pereira held his mother against her will in their home, and shot her multiple times in the head.

He addressed his family before being sentenced.

“For somebody to say that I don’t love mom, you guys know that’s not true. I love her with all my heart,” Pereira said. “I ask for forgiveness for putting mom in one situation that got her killed… and with that being said I’m sorry.”

Pereira was also found guilty of kidnapping, terroristic threatening, firearms and drug offenses.
