HONOLULU (KHON2) — Got unwanted fireworks? The Honolulu Police Department wants to help.
Taking place on July 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., HPD is hosting its “Fireworks Buyback Event” at the Aloha Stadium lower parking lot.
You can get up to $500 in grocery gift cards, which is one dollar per pound of illegal fireworks and five dollars per pound for display mortars.
HPD said that all fireworks must be in a container in your vehicle trunk. At the event, first responders will collect the fireworks for you.
The types of fireworks that will be accepted but not limited to, are aerial devices such as “cakes”, canisters, aerial shells, mortars and roman candles.
Fireworks purchased at stores, such as firecrackers or fountains, as well as homemade fireworks, will not be accepted.
