Gunshots reported near Kuhio Park Terrace for the second time in a week

KALIHI, Oahu (KHON2) — On Sunday, Sept. 14, an anonymous 911 caller reported several gunshot sounds near the Kuhio Park Terrace Area.

HPD says there are no reporter injuries, but two nearby vehicles and a school library appear to have been damaged by bullets.

This is the second reported shooting in that area over the last week, as on Wednesday afternoon, more gunfire was reported near the Kuhio Park Terrace Towers.

“I’m a veteran, and I’m really concerned about that,” said Simeon Rojas, of the Kalihi Valley Neighborhood Watch organizer. “That’s the reason why I support the security watch, because things like that do give me back memories that remind me of what happened to be before and more.”

In a statement, HPD says, “Detectives are aware this is the second such report in the area within the past week and are reviewing whether there are any connections between the incidents.”

HPD also says that there is no suspected motive at this time, barring any verifiable evidence.

Representative Shirley Templo, Kalihi, District 30, also expressed concern about the consecutive reports, but also gratitude that nobody was hurt.

“The safety of our families and keiki must always come first,” said Rep. Templo in a statement, “My office is working with HPD and housing partners to strengthen security measures.”

“Again, we have to stay strong,” said Rojas. “It’s just going to take everybody to participate, you know, if you see or hear anything, we got to call. We all got to participate into our community.”
