H-1, H-201 freeway projects to continue through January

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Drivers in the Moanalua, Salt Lake and Pearl City areas should expect freeway projects and improvements to run into the New Year.

The Hawaii Department of Transportation wants to remind drivers who use the H-1 and H-201 freeways for their daily commute that multiple projects are set to start up again after the holiday season.

H-1 Freeway Airport Viaduct Improvements 

Work will be conducted on the H-1 Freeway from Valkenburg Street to Middle Street Tuesday through Monday from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

The project is expected to be completed by June 2025.

H-1 Salt Lake Rehabilitation 

Crews will work between the Pearl Harbor Interchange and Salt Lake Boulevard underpass nightly.

Work will be conducted on the eastbound lanes from 8 p.m. Friday to Monday 8 p.m. Crews will then work on the westbound lanes form 6:30 p.m. Friday to 2:30 a.m. Monday.

Officials said the estimated completion is March 2025.

H-1 Pearl City and Waimalu Viaduct Improvements

Every Tuesday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m., Friday from 7 p.m. to Saturday 6 a.m. and Saturday from 7 p.m. to Sunday 8 a.m., crews will make improvements between the Halawa Interchange and the H-1/H-2 split.

The project is expected to be completed in March 2027.

H-201 Moanalua Freeway Repaving Project 

The H-201 Moanalua Freeway will be resurfaced from the Fort Shafter overpass and the H-3 Freeway ramp every Sunday to Friday from 7:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day.

HDOT said the official completion date is September 2025.

Officials said message boards will provide advanced notice of closure information.
