HONOLULU (KHON2) — Fifteen governors from across the United States announced the Governors Public Health Alliance on Oct. 15, with Hawaiʻi Gov. Josh Green being among the alliance members.
Green is joined by Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson, Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont, Guam Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero, Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee, Delaware Gov. Matt Meyer, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein.
The alliance is looking to serve as a nonpartisan coordinating hub for state leadership and health officials.
The group looks to collaborate in multiple public health spheres, including health threat detection, emergency preparedness, policy and more.
“While Donald Trump and RFK Jr. turn their backs on public health, governors are stepping up to make sure our residents have the health care they need and deserve,” Healey said.
This comes in addition to the existing Northeast Public Health Collaborative and the West Coast Health Alliance, the latter of which Hawaiʻi is also a part of.
“Viruses and illnesses don’t stop at state borders and our preparedness shouldn’t either,” Green said. “I am proud to be part of this new effort, giving governors and our public health teams new tools to coordinate and deliver clear, consistent, science-based guidance to the public at a time when we are facing unprecedented public health challenges.”
The Governors Public Health Alliance is supported by a nonprofit initiative that supports the protection of fundamental freedoms, such as public health. The nonprofit, GovAct, is also nonpartisan and is run by a bipartisan advisory board of former governors.
