HONOLULU (KHON2) — Gas prices across Hawaiʻi have stayed steady. That’s according to the AAA Hawaiʻi Weekend Gas Watch.
The statewide average for regular unleaded is $4.47. That is the same as last week and 17 cents less than one year ago.
The national average is $3.19, one cent lower than last week and six cents below last year.
Here’s what we know from the update.
Honolulu and neighbor island trends
Honolulu’s average is $4.38. This matches last week, and that price is 11 cents lower than this time in 2024.
In Hilo, the average is $4.64. That’s down two cents from last week and 19 cents from last year.
Kahului’s average is $4.46, which is also two cents lower than last week and 24 cents less than a year ago.
Līhuʻe is the highest amongst major towns at $5.00. That matches last week but is 27 cents less than last year.
Statewide comparisons
AAA Hawaiʻi reports the following averages as of Thursday, Sept. 11:
- Regular is $4.470.
- Mid-grade is $4.680.
- Premium is $4.929.
- Diesel is $5.227.
Compared with a year ago:
- Regular is down from $4.642.
- Mid-grade is down from $4.864.
- Premium is down from $5.121.
- Diesel is down from $5.415.
Looking ahead
“Nationwide, AAA reports that gas demand is dropping as we enter the fall months and pump prices should also drop,” said Liane Sumida, general manager of AAA Hawaiʻi. Members can save through the Shell Fuel Rewards program at participating stations.
