Hawaiʻi nonprofits now have access to $50M in grants

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The state of Hawaiʻi has opened applications for $50 million in grants to support local nonprofits.

The grants were created through Act 310, Session Laws of Hawaiʻi 2025 and will be distributed for fiscal year 2025-2026.

Applications are open from Monday, Oct. 13, through Friday, Oct. 24. Nonprofits can apply online. The application portal opened at 10 a.m. on Monday and closes at 4:30 p.m. on the final day.

Purpose of the grants

The grants are intended to help nonprofits that have lost or experienced delays in federal funding.

Organizations that work in healthcare, human services, education, homelessness and food security have been amongst those most affected.

“Nonprofits are the backbone of our communities,” said Sen. Donovan M. Dela Cruz, chair of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means. “With federal funding becoming increasingly unreliable, Act 310 ensures that we are stepping up to preserve essential services and serve the people who depend on them.”

How to qualify

Applicants must either be organizations that have lost or seen cuts to federal funding, or they must serve communities most affected by those cuts.

To manage the distribution of grants, the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations’ Office of Community Services has partnered with Aloha United Way.

“Numerous nonprofit organizations in Hawai‘i provide essential health and human services,” Rep. Daniel Holt, who represents House District 28, said. “State-administered grants will play a critical role in addressing federal funding gaps, so that our community partners can continue delivering vital services that our families and residents rely on.”
