HONOLULU (KHON2) — Halloween candy is really the reason for the season. Yes, costumes are fun, but the candy is everything, especially for keiki and those who are keiki at heart.
But as climate change impacts the production of chocolate prices continue to rise, a clear hierarchy of candy is emerging.
Everyone wants chocolate, but not everyone can afford it. Lots of folks are seeking out alternative favorites that keep the candy hoards satisfied.

These have been identified as the most popular Halloween candies across the United States:

- M&M’s.
- Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar.
- Snickers.

Four of the top 10 candies are not chocolate; so, that makes it a bit easier to stock up on candy without going bankrupt.
Hawaiʻi’s favorites
For Hawaiʻi’s favorite candies, there were a couple of different opinions on what we purchase the most.
Two sites, here and here, identified Cadbury as being the popular candy for Halloween. Meanwhile, a different site identified M&Ms as being our favorite.
What makes Hawaiʻi’s affinity for Cadbury interesting is that no other state has this as their favorite candy. It’s just Hawaiʻi.
What Hawaiʻi’s doesn’t like
While Halloween candy is going to be eaten regardless of what it is, there is a candy that people really do not like throughout the islands: Candy corn.
While candy corn is most popular in Mississippi, it is ranked as the least popular Halloween candy for Hawaiʻi.
So, while you’re getting your treats sorted for the upcoming run for Halloween candies, keep in mind that while everyone wants chocolate, there are some yummy alternatives.
