Hawaii baseball continues nation’s longest winning streak

The University of Hawaii baseball team maintained the country’s longest winning streak on Sunday, finishing a series sweep over UC Riverside with an 11-3 win on Sunday afternoon at Les Murakami Stadium.

Hawaii improved to 32-15 overall and 15-9 in Big West Conference play, extending their winning streak to 11.

Hawaii, which entered Sunday with the nation’s longest winning streak, struck early with five runs in the bottom of the second and five runs in the bottom of the third.

Former ‘Bows Matthew Flores got the start and the loss for UC Riverside (15-31, 5-19 Big West), allowing five runs in 1.1 innings.

Offensively, Hawaii had 12 hits as a team, led by Jared Quandt, who went 4-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI. Meanwhile, Itsuki Takemoto got his first start of the year at designated hitter and went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

On the mound, Harrison Bodendorf went five innings and got the victory, allowing two hits and three walks with five strikeouts.

Hawaii will next hit the road and face Long Beach State for a three-game series, beginning on Friday at 3 p.m. HST.
