KEAAU, Hawaii (KHON2) — Need to free up some space? Hawaii County is holding two events to help you do just that.
The county announced a tire disposal event, to be held at Keaʻau Middle School on Sept. 21 in the parking lot, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event is free and the site will accept passenger car and light truck tires or smaller. Larger truck or commercial vehicle tires will not be accepted.
The tires can have rims and wheels attached but cannot have water, dirt or debris.
The following Saturday, the county is partnering with Hawaii Energy to collect old, working refrigerators or freezers. Residents will receive $100 per unit.
From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hilo and Puna residents can take the items to Keaʻau Middle School on Sept. 28.
The recycling drive is only open to residents in the following zip codes: 96749, 96778, 96771 and 96720.
Residents must fill out an application and submit to denise.e.nakamura@leidos.com by Sept. 26.
