The season premier of Hawaiʻi Football Final, a Hawaiʻi Sports 2Night production was released on Sunday night, following the University of Hawaii Football team’s unforgettable season opening win over Stanford.
HFF can be seen every Sunday at 7 p.m. on the KHON+ app (Apple TV, Roku and Fire TV), with a television rebroadcast Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m. on KHON2.
For this week only, the TV rebroadcast will be on Monday at 9:30 p.m. on KHON2.
Behind a poised debut from redshirt freshman quarterback Micah Alejado and a late takeaway by the defense, Hawaiʻi edged Stanford 23-20 on Saturday to give fourth-year head coach Timmy Chang a signature victory and the program’s first win over a Power Four opponent in six years.
Alejado threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns and played through a second-half ankle injury, helping the Rainbow Warriors (1–0) answer the Cardinal on a sweltering afternoon in Manoa. Cornerback Kilinahe Mendiola-Jensen delivered a pivotal fourth-quarter interception to preserve the tie, and the defense held Stanford to 286 total yards.
On special teams, Kansei Matsuzawa converted three field goals, including the 38-yard game-winner as time expired.
KHON2 Sports Director Rob DeMello and analyst Rich Miano, the former UH player/coach and 11-year NFL veteran, highlighted Hawaiʻi’s defensive resilience, Alejado’s toughness in his first start and the late-game execution in all three phases that sealed the upset on network television.
