The University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team lost a stunner on Friday night, falling to UC Irvine 21-25, 22-25, 26-24, 25-18, 15-13.
Hawaii dropped to 6-5, while UC Irvine improved to 8-5.

After a road trip in which it went 0-3, the Rainbow Wahine returned home and lost its fourth straight match for the first time since 1985, stunning the Stan Sheriff Center Crowd of 4,671.
Even though Hawaii took the first set comfortably, the Anteaters appeared ready to even the match at a set apiece, but Hawaii took a 2-0 set lead after a stunning 7-0 run to end the second set.
In the third set, with the Wahine up 23-19 and on its way to a sweep, the Anteaters shockingly forced a fourth set by closing with a 6-1 run to take the third 26-24.
The Anteaters breezed past the ‘Bows in the fourth set and stunned the Rainbow Wahine in the fifth despite trailing 12-10.
Hunter Riedl had a match-high 21 kills for the Anteatrs, while Caylen Alexander had a team-high 19 kills for UH despite exiting after the third set due to undisclosed reasons.
Hawaii will close out its homestand on Saturday at 7 p.m. against Cal State Fullerton.
