Hawaiian Airlines helps honor local Vietnam veterans

HONOLULU (KHON2) – Fourteen Vietnam War veterans from Hawaiʻi are heading to Washington, D.C., next week for a once-in-a-lifetime trip with Hawaiian Islands Honor Flight.

The group will travel today, from Oct. 5 to 8, to visit memorials built in their honor and to be recognized for their service.

The trip is completely free for the veterans and made possible through partnerships with Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines.

The program’s mission is to celebrate and thank veterans by giving them the chance to see the monuments that honor their sacrifices. Airlines are donating flights, meals, and support for the journey.

Hawaiian Islands Honor Flight is also asking for volunteers and donations to help welcome the group home at Honolulu Airport on Oct. 8.
