Hawaii’s first Tokyo Central opens in Kailua

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Tokyo Central, a specialty market, opened in Kailua on Friday, May 10.

This is the store’s first location here in Hawaii after taking over the Times Supermarket location.

The market offers groceries, Japanese cuisine, grab and go food, and Japan style cuts of meat. A series of samplings and performances will be taking place today and tomorrow for the grand opening.


New shop serving up local snack favorites

“Originally this was a Times Supermarket store so we just wanted to introduce more japan products. So we already have these stores in California called Tokyo central so we just wanted to introduce this brand into Hawaii also.”

The celebration is continue Saturday morning starting at 10 a.m. with the following activities:

Taiko performance by Dragon Beat at 10 a.m.

Prize Wheel Spin: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.; 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Big Eye Ahi Cutting Demonstration at 11am

Keiki meet up with DonPen the Don Quijote mascot: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.; 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
