Hawaii’s Loree, Kim solid in first round at Sony Open

The PGA Tour’s Sony Open in Hawai‘i, the first full-field tournament of the 2025 season, teed off Thursday at Waialae Country Club, featuring standout performances from two Hawai‘i high school state champions.

Kaimuki alum and second-year Tour member Chan Kim delivered a bogey-free round, finishing 4-under and just two strokes off the lead.

Meanwhile, Seabury Hall senior and reigning HHSAA champion Tyler Loree, who is bound for UCLA, birdied holes 7 through 10 to close the day at 3-under, placing him in the top 30 in his first-ever PGA Tour event.

The tournament continues Friday, with both players aiming to make the weekend cut.
