Co-produced by John Wells Productions, Warner Bros. Television, and FOX Entertainment, the series has a strong local connection, employing a Hawaii producer and sourcing most of its crew from the islands, including all water unit hires.

Set against the backdrop of the North Shore of Oahu, Rescue: HI-Surf explores the lives of lifeguards in a gripping drama that “delivers just what its title promises,” according to Robert Lloyd of the Los Angeles Times.

Executive producer John Wells, known for The West Wing, directed the first two episodes, alongside creator and showrunner Matt Kester.

The production features Brian Keaulana, a renowned lifeguard and surfer, as producer and stunt coordinator, ensuring authenticity with a specialized water unit made up entirely of local talent.

“This series is a first-of-its-kind in many ways, showcasing the vision of its talented producers and the skills of Hawaii’s creative workforce,” said James Kunane Tokioka, director of the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT).

He added that the show highlights the daily bravery of lifeguards while boosting local production opportunities.

Starring Robbie Magasiva, Arielle Kebbel, Adam Demos, Kekoa Scott Kekumano, Zoe Cipres, and Alex Aiono, Rescue: HI-Surf delves into the intense personal and professional lives of first responders as they navigate the challenges of one of the world’s most famous coastlines.

Most of the filming takes place outdoors on location in Oahu for an authentic viewer experience.

“The goal was to hire as many local crew and talent as possible. With a series rooted in the North Shore lifeguard community, viewers will get a real look at these everyday heroes,” said DBEDT Creative Industries Division Chief Georja Skinner. “We hope Rescue: HI-Surf gets renewed for a second season and beyond.”
