Head-on collision leaves motorcyclist in critical condition

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A serious crash late Sunday night left a male moped rider in critical condition after a collision with a vehicle on Farrington Highway.

The incident took place around 10:13 p.m. near Nanakuli.

According to Honolulu Police, the adult male rider was traveling eastbound when he unexpectedly veered into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with a 32-year-old male motorist heading west.

Emergency Medical Services rushed the rider to a nearby hospital in serious condition, where his status worsened to critical.

Police said the moped rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The motorist remained at the scene and was unharmed.

Authorities noted that there is currently no evidence suggesting that speed, drugs, or alcohol played a role in the crash.
