HFD fights wildfire on both sides of Kunia Road

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Honolulu Fire Department is at the scene of a wildfire in Kunia, which was first reported on the evening of Aug. 11.

According to officials, the flames were ignited shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Kunia Road.

Fire is burning on both sides of the road, HFD said.

First responders got to the scene at about 6:30 p.m., and at 8:40 p.m. HFD said the fire has been 85% contained.

The fire led to a full shutdown of the road between Kunia Drive and Anonui Street, with an HNL Alert announcing the closure at 7:03 p.m.

Officials urge the public to avoid the area, and no evacuation orders have been issued at this time.

Hawaiian Electric was called to the area, according to HFD.
