HFD rescues lost hiker on Makaua Hidden Valley Trail

HONOLULU (KHON2) – Honolulu firefighters rescued a man Sunday evening, Oct. 19, after he became lost on the Makaua Hidden Valley Trail in Ka‘a‘awa.

The incident occured when a male hiker in his 20’s became lost and stuck in a steep area, unable to make his way down.

At around 5:57 p.m., the HFD responded with seven units staffed with 20 personnel.

A rescue team aboard HFD’s Air 1 located the man around 7:09 p.m. and airlifted him to a nearby landing zone, where he was evaluated and confirmed to be uninjured.

Medical treatment was not needed.

Fire officials remind the public to always assess their hiking abilities before hitting the trails and to choose routes that match their skill level.
