HONOLULU (KHON2) — 34 suspended school bus routes in Central Oʻahu, Central and Upcountry Maui, and East and South Hawaiʻi Island has been restored Monday, the Hawai‘i State Department of Education (HIDOE) announced.
The HIDOE has secured drivers and buses through a new direct contract with Roberts Hawaii.
The following school bus routes will resume service Monday to 1,200 students across three islands:

On August 1, the HIDOE announced the temporary suspension of over 100 bus routes due to workforce shortages, affecting thousands of students.
The following day, an additional 39 routes servicing Maui schools were temporarily suspended, impacting more than 800 students.
According to Superintendent Keith Hayashi, efforts are underway to reinstate the remaining 113 suspended bus routes, and he has formally requested assistance from the Hawaiʻi National Guard to address student transportation needs.
Officials reported that the state still needs about 67 more vehicles and 50 more drivers.
