HONOLULU (KHON2) — On Sat., Aug. 23, at around 7:30 p.m., the Honolulu Fire Department responded to a building fire in Kaneohe.
The fire occurred on Kahuhipa Street, where the first unit arrived at 7:35 p.m. with 12 units staffed by 46 personnel.
Officials say that the first unit reported no signs of smoke or fire from Kahuhipa Street, but there was a report that smoke and flames were coming from the sixth-floor unit on the other side of the building.
Once first responders arrived on the sixth floor, they saw neighbors using a firefighter’s water hose to extinguish the fire and assisting others out of the building.
At 7:50 p.m., Honolulu EMS took over caring for the people after firefighters initially helped them, and the fire was out by 8 p.m.
EMS says four people were treated, including a man and a woman who were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
The investigation is active as the origin of the fire is yet to be determined.
