Honolulu Halloween candy prices: Cheapest to most expensive

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Halloween is next Friday! And as candy and chocolate prices are rising this year, KHON2.com decided to explore Honolulu’s options for candy prices.

Many families are buying treats for parties and trick-or-treaters which is why candy is one of the most popular parts of the holiday.

In Hawaiʻi, favorite candies can vary depending on who you ask. Some say Cadbury as the most popular Halloween candy, while others say M&Ms are the islands’ top choice.

No matter what kind of sweets people buy, most agree on one thing: Candy corn is not a favorite across Hawaiʻi.

Still, Halloween wouldn’t be complete without plenty of candy to share! Here’s what we found from store to store.

Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart, hands down, had the largest selection and the cheapest prices for Halloween candy. So, if you have the patience to find parking and stand in the lines, then this is the place you want to go.

There are lots of candies for under $5. While some of the bags are small, you’ll have to buy multiple bags to equal the larger bags. So, those prices may not be cheaper. But the larger variety bags are only around $15 with some premium candies going for as much at around $20.

Target

Target’s selections and prices were not too far off “target” from Wal-Mart. The deals aren’t quite as good, but the selection is on par.

For those seeking alternatives to chocolate candies, Target has 28-piece bags of candies like Nerds and Haribo gummies for around $10 and $9, respectively; and Skittles for around $4. There are also bags of Reese’s Peanut Butter cups for around $9.

Safeway

Behind the international powerhouses, Safeway comes in with a pretty good selection. Their prices aren’t as cheap as Wal-Mart and Target, but they have a good variety of gigantic bags of mixed candies.

The big get from Safeway are the gigantic 200-piece chocolate candy bags for $33. There are also lots of bags of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups that are on sale for 50% off.

Don Quijote

As always, Don Quijote doesn’t disappoint. They don’t have the massive bags or the large selection; they do have lots of specialty items and Asian favorites that will make your candy offerings interesting and popular.

You can get large packages of Poko for $4. Meanwhile, there are 35-piece chocolate candies for abround $6.

Long’s

While the selection is somewhat disappointing, Long’s has some great incentives to choose them as your Halloween candy destination. They have several options to buy one, get the second for $1. Yup, you read that correctly.

They also have large bags of chocolate candies that range from $16 to $25. And Long’s has lots of non-chocolate candy selections that range from $3 to $12.

Times

Times has a descent selection that’s conveniently located near the registers. Their prices won’t bankrupt you, either. While the prices are on par with some of the other smaller retailers, they do have some fun candies not seen at other locations.

From Chocolate covered Cookie Dough candies to Korean chocolates, the prices range from $7 to $8. You can also find Kinder chocolate candies four around $9.

Walgreens

Walgreens offers some pretty good prices. They don’t have a great selection, but their store hours promise to give you what you need when you need it.

Walgreens has a pretty large selection of chocolate candies and non-chocolate candies with 50% off offers across the candy spectrum.

Foodland

Foodland had the fewest candy selections, but they have a great price point with many of their bags of candy being offered at 40% off. And it’s all the favorites from chocolate candies to Skittles.

We went to Whole Foods but could not find any Halloween candy selections available.

We also heard a rumor that businesses located outside Honolulu have cheaper prices than their in town counterparts. So, you may be able to find cheaper prices. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
