(NEXSTAR) — Cal Raleigh will likely still be riding the high of winning his first All-Star Home Run Derby on Monday, which came complete with new records, a shiny trophy, and a $1 million prize.
The Seattle Mariners catcher, fondly known as Big Dumper, is in line to earn even more money on Tuesday when he takes the field for the MLB All-Star Game in Atlanta.
Raleigh and all players elected or selected to the All-Star Game or Home Run Derby get several perks under the MLB’s current collective bargaining agreement. That includes complimentary tickets for guests, first-class flights and hotel stays for themselves and two guests, meal and tip allowances, a $1,000 cash stipend, and a gift from the league.
Players who make the American League and National League All-Star teams receive rings, while those making milestone appearances — specifically their 5th, 10th, or 15th — receive a gift or memento and special recognition, according to the CBA.
Those who received the most fan votes to send them to the All-Star game will also get a bonus check. Among outfielders, the top three vote-getters in both leagues receive $15,000. For other positions, the player with the most votes gets $15,000. The player with the second most votes gets $5,000, while the next most-voted player receives $2,500.
New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge led the voting this year, according to the MLB. Unsurprisingly, Los Angeles Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani led the National League in votes.
Any players who agree to be mic’d up while playing receive a stipend for their participation, per the CBA. This year, it’s $15,000.
Players, at least those who were available to play, on the roster of the winning All-Star Game team split an $800,000 bonus, which breaks down to about $25,000 each.
There are some players who may earn even larger paychecks, depending on whether they have All-Star-related clauses in their contracts, even if they aren’t attending the game.
Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cristopher Sánchez, who was offered an All-Star spot but reportedly declined it over restrictions, is still set to receive the $50,000 bonus outlined in his contract for the selection, The Athletic reported.
Others expecting bonuses for making the All-Star roster, according to Forbes, include Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Freddy Peralta, New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor, and Mariners center fielder Julio Rodríguez.
The MLB All-Star Game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday, July 15.
