HONOLULU (KHON2) — Chief Arthur “Joe” Logan of the Honolulu Police Department has announced that he will be retiring at the end of the month.

On Monday, June 2, Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi held a press conference to make the announcement. Also on June 2, Logan released a statement and said that it was “an honor and a privilege” to work as HPD’s 12th Chief of Police.

“Joe served us well for three years to the best of his ability,” Blangiardi said.

In his statement, Logan said crime had gone down during his time as police chief and expressed his gratitude to the department’s officers and civilian employees.

“Leading a large police department is tough and demanding, and it requires constant balancing of competing needs and wants from all sectors of the community,” Logan’s statement reads. “Getting the job done is only made possible with the support of many.”

Blangiardi said he would “strongly recommend” that Benjamin Moszkowicz — the Chief of Hawaiʻi Police Department — return to the Honolulu Police Department as the interim chief after Logan’s retirement.
