KALIHI, Hawaii (KHON2) — The Honolulu Police Department is seeking information following a critical hit-and-run incident in Kalihi.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services treated a 53-year-old female moped rider with critical injuries just after 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 24.
Officials said the incident happened at the intersection of North King Street and Kohou Street.
The woman was driving west on North King Street. Once she entered the intersection to attempt a left turn, she was hit by an unidentified driver who was driving east.
As a result of the crash, she was ejected onto the roadway.
On Saturday, May 24, Honolulu EMS said they took the woman to an emergency room in serious condition. Her injuries later worsened, as HPD’s Traffic Division reported she sustained critical injuries.
HPD said the unidentified driver continued to drive northbound on Kohou Street without stopping to help or provide information.
Officials noted that the moped rider was not wearing a helmet.
