HPD officer-involved collision leaves pedestrian in serious condition

WAIANAE, Hawaii (KHON2) — A collision involving a police officer has left a pedestrian in serious condition.

According to the Honolulu Police Department, the incident occurred on May 22 at about 8:15 p.m. on Farrington Highway near Leihoku Street in the Waianae area.

HPD said that an officer was traveling west on Farrington Highway when a 29-year-old male pedestrian, who was riding a scooter, attempted to cross multiple lanes of Farrington Highway outside of a marked crosswalk.

The pedestrian entered the officer’s path of travel and was hit.

As a result of the accident, the pedestrian was thrown onto the roadway.

Paramedics with Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene, and the man was transported to an area hospital in serious condition.

The HPD officer was not injured as a result of the collision.
