HONOLULU (KHON2) – It’s all about having fun on Halloween and getting as much candy as you can. Officials want that fun to continue by making sure you and your family stay safe.
In line with the current “Safer Roads Together” campaign, Honolulu Police tell us to minimize distractions (cell phones, texts, etc.) and drive safely. Traffic will be heavier, especially around Waikiki, malls, event locations and residential areas.
Give yourself more time for the evening commute, and start your commute earlier. If you’re running late, drive safely with aloha.
Acting Captain High Shin Lin tells us drivers should be prepared for increased pedestrian traffic throughout your drive. Be sure to slow down, use turn signals and headlights and give the right-of-way.
Trick-or-treaters may have decreased visibility and hearing as well. Pedestrians should always use crosswalks and sidewalks and keep to well-lit areas. If sidewalks are unavailable or unimproved, walk facing traffic.
