Hone’s maximum sustained winds remain 85 mph and is moving west at 8 mph.

“Hone is expected to gradually weaken the next couple of days.”

As of the 8 a.m. update, Hone was 90 miles south southwest of Kona.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles.

The following remain concerns for the islands.

WIND: Tropical Storm conditions will continue on the Big Island through the morning hours. Winds are expected to be strongest downslope of higher terrain, over headlands, and through passes.

RAINFALL: Hone is expected to produce an additional 3 to 6 inches of rainfall over mainly southeast and south facing slopes of the Big Island. Additional rainfall of 1 to 3 inches will be possible over the smaller islands, mainly windward.

SURF: Swells generated by Hone are affecting portions of the Hawaiian islands, producing life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.

The Big Island is under a flash flood warning and tropical storm warning while Maui County is under a high wind warning.
