HONOLULU (KHON2) — In an 8 a.m. update on Saturday, officials said Hurricane Hone is approaching south of other islands, passing west through Big Island.
Though Hone is slowly making its way through the Big Island, residents can still expect gusty winds and heavy widespread rainfall.
According to the Hawaii Department of Transportation, the following road closures have been announced:
Big Island Road Closures
Highway 11 in Milolii due to downed tree on power lines
One lane at Marker Point 14 on Highway 11 due to downed tree
Route 270 at Marker Point 14 near Lapakahi State Park due to downed tree
Highway 11 in Kau from MP 66.5 to 66 due to flooding
The following areas on the Big Island are currently experiencing power outages:
Shipman Ranch/Keaau Town area
Honokaa/Paauilo
Other islands are also feeling the effects of Hurricane Hone.
Maui Road Closures
Hana Highway near Upper Waikani Falls and from MM 6 to 15 due to debris
