Impaired driver checkpoints continue into summer

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Impaired driver checkpoints will be implemented by the Honolulu Police Department beginning May 1 till June 30.

The checkpoints will be at unannounced times and locations.

The checkpoints are part of the department’s ongoing effort to reduce traffic deaths and injuries.

HPD has been conducting these checkpoints every week since September 2023.

As a reminder, the legal drinking age is 21-year-old, and drinking while intoxicated is illegal and hold a penalty of possible imprisonment.

Promoting intoxicating liquor to a person under the age of 21 is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one-year imprisonment.
