KAUAI, Hawaii (KHON2) — The Kauaʻi Fire Department rescued a 32-year old woman who was injured while hiking Waipoʻo Falls on Aug. 2.
According to KFD officials, the California woman had injured her ankle while traversing the trail. First responders first got word of the distressed hiker shortly after 1:20 p.m.
First responders from the Waimea fire station arrived at the scene, where they hiked about a quarter mile along the falls. Firefighters located the hiker, where they say she was responsive but unable to walk due to her injury.
The firefighters were able to stabilize her injury with a splint and carried the hiker off the trail, officials said.
After being taken out of the scene, the woman was evaluated by American Medical Response personnel, and was then taken to Kauaʻi Veterans Memorial Hospital via a private vehicle, KFD said.
Authorities say they were able to clear the scene shortly before 4 p.m.
