HONOLULU (KHON2) — Has your smoke alarm been going on for seemingly no reason at all?
Fire officials say it may have something to do with the high humidity from the rain.
According to the Honolulu Fire Department, humidity, bugs and even dust can trigger smoke alarms to go off.
HFD suggests running an air conditioner to combat the humidity, but if you don’t have one, don’t fret, there are other ways to combat the situation.
Press [the power] button and hold it down until the beeping stops and if it doesn’t stop, then remove the smoke alarm from its base and there’s a switch in back that you can turn the smoke alarm off.

HFD also added that if you disconnect your smoke alarm, to make sure you replace it right away.
Lastly, they recommended vacuuming around the smoke alarm at least once a month to prevent any dust or bugs from getting into the alarms.
