HONOLULU (KHON2) — Firefighters have contained a brush fire near Kahili Golf Course along Kahekili Highway near mile marker 16.
Maui Fire Department said flames broke out around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, and burned approximately four to five acres.
MFD sent four engines, two tankers, two helicopters, three private tankers and two private cement loaders to battle the flames.
The brush fire temporarily closed Honoapiilani and Kuihelani highways. The roads have since been reopened.
Firefighters stopped the forward progression of the fire shortly before 2 p.m. In a 6 p.m. update on social media, Maui firefighters announced the fire was fully contained.
No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported.
Crews will continue monitoring the scene overnight and address hot spots.
