Kailua alumnus and Cleveland Guardians pitcher Joey Cantillo earned his first career MLB victory in dominant fashion on Monday.
In his fifth career MLB start and sixth appearance in the show overall, Cantillo retired the first 20 batters he faced against the Chicago White Sox, losing a perfect game with two outs in the seventh inning.

Cantillo finished out the seventh inning and gave up two hits and a run, but finished with 10 strikeouts and no walks. Cleveland went on to beat the White Sox 5-3.
Cantillo, who entered the day with a 7.71 ERA, lowered his 2024 mark to 5.96. The Guardians improved to 82-62 overall.
With the win, Cantillo is the 22nd Hawaii-born pitcher to earn an MLB victory.
