Kauaʻi Fire Department hosts family fire safety event

LIHUʻE, Hawaiʻi (KHON2) – The Kauaʻi Fire Department brought the community together this weekend to kick off Fire Prevention Week.

The event took place today, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kauaʻi Philippine Cultural Center, where admission was free and open to the public.

Families were able to check out fire trucks, take pictures with Sparky the Fire Dog, and enjoy games, prizes, and hands-on activities. There were also booths with safety information, CPR demos, and tips on how to prevent both home and wildfire dangers.

“This event is a valuable opportunity to bring our partners and community together to focus on preventing both home fires and dangerous wildfires,” said Kauaʻi Fire Chief Michael Gibson. “In addition to our community risk programs, we want to share fire safety lessons that families can talk about at home.”

The event featured partners from the Kauaʻi Police Department, Firewise Hawaiʻi, and the Department of Land and Natural Resources.
