HONOLULU (KHON2) — Governor Josh Green and other state non-profit officials will be speaking this afternoon about their plan of action to protect Hawaiʻi residents, especially families, who are being affected by the ongoing federal shutdown.
They will also discuss federal food assistance programs that have been affected by the shutdown.
The 165,000 Hawaiʻi residents who rely on SNAP benefits are currently preparing themselves for the disruption of the federal food assistance program.
The new assistance program, the Hawaiʻi Relief Program, was announced yesterday to help Hawaiʻi families find financial stability throughout this time of uncertainty.
The new program will provide families with emergency support for housing and utility costs.
During this presser, the people will also be hearing from Department of Human Services Deputy Director Joseph Campos, Office of Hawaiian Affairs Chair Kaialiʻi Kahele, Hawaiʻi Foodbank President and CEO Amy Miller and other legislative leaders.
