HONOLULU (KHON2) — More than 100 keiki and their families took a trip to the “North Pole” on Thursday, Dec. 5 with United Airlines.
It wasn’t really the North Pole but more of a fantasy land. Keiki from Camp Anuenue, HUGS, Epic Ohana, Gold Star Families and more took part in the holiday experience.
“There’s a lot of impact with kids because they’re special needs, underprivileged and the most heartwarming part is Gold Star kids who have lost a family member in the military. So I look forward to this every year,” explained Eric Valdez, United Airlines Honolulu Customer Service lead.
The entire ohana got the full flight experience, boarding at Terminal Two at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.
Keiki got the opportunity to play games, enjoy treats and even meet with special friends, including Stitch and Santa Claus.
“We had games, prizes and we even had doggie corner. They can pet dogs all they want. This is for the kids, so whatever they want on the table they can have,” Valdez added.
One keiki described the flight as “awesome” and especially loved the part when they saw Christmas Island.
Valdez said staff and volunteers look forward to the event every year to help support and take care of keiki in need.
