Owner Jonathan Cohen explained the original product is from the Middle East and is usually made with dairy.

At Mala-Be, Cohen said all products are coconut-based, gluten-free and vegan.

The best seller is the coconut-based Malabe, which has pistachio, rose water and shredded coconut.

They also offer chocolate and chocolate-coconut flavors.

Rose water is a big part of the Middle Eastern diet as it is used as a drink with mint or as a syrup.

You can find Malabe products at the Kailua Farmers Market, Down to Earth on King Street and Pearlridge and Banzai Sushi Bar.
