HONOLULU (KHON2) — A 21-year-old man is dead following a motor vehicle collision that occurred in Haleʻiwa during the early morning hours of Sept. 24.
According to the Honolulu Police Department, the multi-vehicle collision occurred at 6:08 a.m. on Joseph P. Leong Highway south of Emerson Road.
A 58-year-old male driver was traveling northbound on the highway, when it crossed into the opposite lane and sideswiped a juvenile female driver and her juvenile passenger, HPD said.
The man continued moving forward collided head-on with a 21-year-old male driver and sideswiped a third driver, investigators said.
The 21-year-old man was ejected onto the roadway as a result of the head-on collision, and was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
The juvenile female driver sustained minor injuries but refused treatment at the scene. There were no other injuries, police said.
The 58-year-old driver remained at the scene following the incident, HPD said.
The man’s death marks the 65th traffic fatality on Oʻahu compared to 32 at the same time last year.
