HAWAII, Hawaii (KHON2) — A 48-year-old man is dead following a Big Island traffic collision on Oct. 19.
The incident occurred near the 43.5-mile marker on Highway 19 in Honokaʻa, police said.
Police responded to the area at approximately 7:33 p.m. to investigate reports of a traffic hazard. Upon investigation, officials said they observed another vehicle swerve on the road, hitting a man.
Officials say they found a man in dark clothes lying in the road following the hit.
First responders began life saving measures as Hawaiʻi Fire Department arrived at the scene, officials said.
The man was ultimately pronounced dead at 7:51 p.m., authorities said.
Officials ordered an autopsy to determine the man’s exact cause of death. The man was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of his death, police said.
The man was later identified as 48-year-old Ivan Primo of Waimea.

This marks the 18th traffic fatality on the Big Island, compared to 24 at the same time last year.
